RUMOURS that Barnet Football Club is planning to move to Hatfield have been scotched.

It was revealed this week the club had been involved in discussions with the University of Hertfordshire over its Angerland Common site.

Tony Kleanthous, chairman of the League Two outfit, has reportedly been interested in the site "for a number of years".

Club spokesman Dennis Signy confirmed Mr Kleanthous had held "serious" talks with the university about a potential move.

"He has talked to the university people," Mr Signy said. "This was last month (March) sometime.

"There were quite firm discussions. Prices were talked about. It [a move] is on the backburner now."

Hatfield Town FC previously expressed a tentative interest in the site, which has planning permission for a sports facility, but is now looking at the town's Birchwood sports complex.

A university spokeswoman said: "The university is not in discussions with Barnet Football Club.
