IT was a day to remember for FC Rangers veteran John Searle on Sunday.

The stalwart became Rangers' record appearance holder after pulling on a club shirt for the 313th time in now his 20th Sunday League season.

The only founder member of the club left was handed the skipper's armband to mark the occasion.

And the team came up trumps for Searle with a five-star show to beat Premier Division strugglers UNISON 5-2.

The game itself started poorly for Rangers and UNISON raced into a deserved 2-0 lead.

Mark Rogers replied from the penalty spot after being brought down by the keeper and added a second with a fine finish from the impressive Jason Halsey's cross from the right.

The second half saw man- of-the-match Adam Fisher dominate proceedings, but half-time substitute Jerome Cain stole the show with a fine hat-trick.

The UNISON defence could not handle his pace and power.

He scored from close range after a keeper fumble and that was soon followed by a superbly drilled shot from the edge of the area.

The hat-trick was complete with another close- range effort which guaranteed the Sir Frederic Osborn-based side the Premier Division points.
