IN the first weekend of Knebworth Park fielding six Saracens Herts League sides, five recorded victories on Saturday.

Opening bowler Paul Slade, opening bat Jarrod Turner and a record five catches by Steve Gregory were stars of the first team's success at Chorleywood.

All the teams boasted eight or more products of the Old Knebworth Lane cricket club's thriving youth sections.

Bowlers Shaun Robinson and Richard Jerome set the Park 2nds on their way against Northwood before in-form batters Colin Letford and Phil Simpson did the rest.

Half-centuries from Josh Roseberry and Ian Pickering paved the way for the 3rd XI's first win against Bushey, while Pete Bayford's four wickets plucked out a win for Knebworth 4ths after Elstree 2nds were digging in for a draw.

There was a titanic battle in the 5th XI's game against Reed 3rds.

After another five-wicket haul by Dave Mantle, they were in deep trouble before Richard Evans and Richard Jones salvaged a win.

Steve Jenkins' half-century could not stave off defeat for his young guns in the 6th XI's match against Reed 4ths in Division 14 and they went down with many positive performances in the only defeat of the day.
