Herts Mavericks captain Sasha Corbin, and team-mate Layla Guscoth, were part of the England netball team which were runners-up in the Tri-Series competition in South Africa on Friday as they went down to their first defeat of the year.

England had beaten hosts South Africa 49-39 in the opening match of the tournament and then saw off Trinidad & Tobago 56-24 to reach the final.

There they again took on the South Africans, having led 19-18 at half-time England then drifted away and fell to a surprise 39-37 loss in Port Elizabeth.

England had previous beaten South Africa in their last four encounters, including a 3-0 series win last month.

England had gone 12 games unbeaten during the year, however they could not make it 13.

Next year England will be hoping to challenge for the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
