WELWYN Garden City will hope to take some heart from Saturday’s draw against Slough as they look very much involved in a battle against relegation.

With six games to go, the Digswell Park Club are bottom of Division One of the Home Counties Premier Cricket League, having recorded just two wins so far.

Having been put in Slough made 300-9 from their 66 overs with top scores from Waqas Hussain (81), Shaan Khan (64) and Shaid Yousuf (61).

Paul Barker bowled well for WGC taking three wickets for 99 runs from 25 overs and he was ably backed up by two wickets from Gavin Baker and one each from Cameron Taylor and James Scott.

James Hewitt opened the batting for WGC with Louis Champion and made 44 before being caught and bowled by Zaheer Sher.

Most of the rest of the side made it to double figures but could not push on to reach the 301 set by Slough and in the end held out to gain a creditable draw.
