ASPIRING tennis stars headed to Northaw and Cuffley Tennis Club for a festival day.

The event was part of the Sportsmatch Herts Mini Tennis Trail, which is given a subsidy by Herts Tennis and government Sportsmatch funding.

Junior players and their families enjoyed a fun-packed afternoon with the coaching staff and tennis helpers, after completing a training session.

Head coach Mandy Bishop, who hosted the day with colleague Ian Pottinger, said: "This funding has enabled Northaw and Cuffley LTC to offer 'taster sessions' to Year 1 children at local schools and select the most promising for further development squads at their local club following assessment."

The day was in addition to the club's own Cuffley Tennis Trail scheme which gets more than 600 youngsters involved in the sport.

Tessa Terry, junior representative, added: "Both schemes are vital for the development of the sport in general and our goal is to bring tennis at a reasonable cost to the local community and increase participation in this fun sport."

The club's next open day is Saturday, June 14 from 11am-4pm. For more information about the club visit www.cuffleytennisclub.co.uk
