The new-look machine was launched in an innovative way in Germany today (Friday), with Vodafone competition winners and McLaren team members assembling the chassis in the middle of a plaza near the old Berlin Wall.

Herts-born Hamilton, 26, and team-mate Jenson Button added the final components in front of the world’s media.

Hamilton was impressed by the turnout and his McLaren challenger for 2011.

“It’s great to see how many fans braved the Berlin weather to come to today’s event,” he said.

“I hope it’s been an exciting day for everyone: I think people saw a unique way of revealing our 2011 car, something that’s never been done before.

“I hope the car proves just as innovative once we take to the track next week.”

Hamilton will test drive his new car in Jerez, Spain, for the first time next Thursday.
