LEWIS Hamilton finished down in 14th spot in today's first practice session ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix. The Herts race ace and defending Formula 1 world champion posted a fastest time of 1 minute 23.077 second for the 24 laps he completed on Bar

LEWIS Hamilton finished down in 14th spot in today's first practice session ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.

The Herts race ace and defending Formula 1 world champion posted a fastest time of 1 minute 23.077 second for the 24 laps he completed on Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.

That time was 1.278 secs adrift of fellow Brit Jenson Button, who was fastest around the track in 1 min 21.799 secs.

Brawn-Mercedes speedster Button currently tops the driver standings after the opening four races of the Formula 1 season.

Hamilton's McLaren-Mercedes team-mate Heikki Kovalainen was down in 19th spot with a time of 1 min 23.522 secs from 21 laps around the circuit.

The second practice session is set to begin around 1pm British Standard Time.
