FORMULA 1 star Lewis Hamilton was fourth quickest in first practice for the 2012 Indian Grand Prix.

The 27-year-old Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver from Hertfordshire clocked a time of 1m 28.046s around a very dusty Buddh circuit in India.

F1 world championship leader Sebastian Vettel threw down the gauntlet by posting the fastest lap of FP1 with a 1m 27.619s in his Red Bull.

Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Jenson Button was second on the timesheets with a 1m 27.929s.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was third best in the first practice session near Delhi.
