TOM Lewis got off to an encouraging start as he was included in the England team for the Boys' Home Internationals which started on Tuesday.

Wales were England's first opponents at Royal County Down.

Welwyn Garden City teenager Tom, partnered by Jonathan Ball, were a hole ahead in the foursomes playing the 18th.

But with both teams missing the green, the Welsh duo recovered for a tap-in putt to win the hole and gain a half.

In the singles, Lewis ran out the winner after a tight match by one hole.

Losing the foursomes 31/2 to 11/2, England hit back to beat Wales 7-3 in the singles and 81/2 - 61/2 overall.

"We got a fright in the foursomes, but we knew we had a good enough team to win," said Lewis.
