UNDER-16 player Tom Eaton struck a brilliant 75 for Knebworth 4ths on Saturday.

Teenager Eaton tucked into the Clarendon 2nd XI's attack in bowler-friendly conditions where the ball seamed and swung all day.

Bret Painter (23) and Danny Digweed (25) grafted hard in an opening stand of 52.

Then Eaton, with support from Ian Woods (22) and David Haslam (16), lifted the total to 171-4 in the Saracens Herts League Division Eight game.

That score was more than enough as subsequent events proved.

But the Park frittered away their final six wickets to be bowled out for 187 in the rush for late runs, gifting the home side five bowling points.

Clarendon, having won the toss and asked Knebworth to bat first, then made no effort in the chase for victory.

The Park bowled well with Eaton taking 2-36.

Although taking no wickets, David Mantle's swing bowling posed considerable problems and leg spinner Connor Alderman, one of four Under-16 players in the team, bagged 3-6.

In the end Clarendon finished on a dismal 110-6, providing a first-class example to advocate the introduction of a limited overs 'winner-takes-all' format.
