WELWYN and Hatfield Volleyball Club’s ladies won the final of the 2013 Herts Volleyball Association Knockout Cup in style on Sunday to complete a fantastic season double.

The final was played at Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley and was against their biggest rivals Watford.

Watford had won the cup for the last three years, including twice in finals against Welwyn.

Having won the league dropping only two sets in 12 matches, surely this had to be Welwyn Ladies’ and coach Paul Clarke’s year.

The first set saw a disappointing start for Welwyn Ladies with Watford leading 11-1 until the Welwyn girls finally clicked into gear staging a courageous, dogged, and often nail-biting comeback to win the set 26-24.

Welwyn Ladies then won the second set 25-12 spurred on by some excellent support, and by the third set they were dominating Watford and finished the match with a convincing third set victory 25-14.

Team captain Lynne Howett, said: “We have developed well as a team this season with some fresh new ideas and players and continue to welcome new players to the club and we will be back next year to win the double again!”
