HERTS diver Hayley Sage finished just outside the medal placings at the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Madrid, Spain.

In the 3m springboard synchro Sage, alongside partner Tandi Gerrard, were looking to replicate their performance at the CAMO invitational meet in December with another international medal.

Sage dives for the City of Sheffield but grew up in Hertford and made a name for herself competing for Hatfield's Beaumont Diving Academy.

At the weekend Sage and Gerrard looked strong in the first two rounds where they lay within the medals.

But they dropped marks in their reverse 2 1/2 tuck to slip down to the fourth spot. The girls battled hard but couldn't get back into the medal positions.

They finished in fourth place with a promising score of 270.84 points.

Gold was taken by China's Ting Li and Qinxi Zhao with 296.40, silver was claimed by the Ukrainian team of Olena Federova and Alevtyna Korolyova with 292.44 and bronze was won by Canada's Blythe Hartley and Melanie Rinaldi with 287.7.
