POTTERS Bar Bowls Club staged the annual contest for the Dearman Cup on Saturday.

This is a day-long competition and to win this triples cup, players must win four rounds of six ends in their group of 24 bowlers.

In this quick-fire form of play there is little chance of recovering from any bowling errors.

The final was a contest between the winners of each of the two groups over a further seven ends.

Hazel Thurgood, Brian Thurgood and skip Graham Marriner were this year's winners, beating Linda Bell, Terry White and skip Terry Barker by 7-2 on shots and by 5-2 on ends.

Also on Sunday, the St Albans & District BA team scored a good win at Welwyn & District BC.

The St Albans side have struggled for victories this season but in a five rink match in their 50th anniversary programme they won against W&D BC by 110 to 93 shots.

The best of their rinks was Mick Kirby, Keith Price, Chas Prior and Ian Mathison, who won 24-17.

The District won the other rinks 20-15, 27-24 and 20-15.
