The annual Hatfield Schools’ Netball Tournament took place at Sir Frederic Osborn School, WGC, and yet again the standard of netball was extremely high

The six teams involved were Green Lanes, Birchwood, Countess Anne, St Philip Howard and De Havilland, who fielded two teams.

During the group stage, Countess Anne were very happy securing their first win of the season while Birchwood Avenue also did very well, finishing in third place having won three out of their five matches.

Some fantastic netball was played by Green Lanes who were very unlucky not to progress further in the competition.

And De Havilland B showed great determination throughout every game.

But it was St Philip Howard and De Havilland A who took the top places in the group stages, qualifying to the final.

It was a match befitting the stage against two teams who have been playing extremely well all season.

And it was a tough, nail biting and very intense match.

Again, the standard of play was so high and evenly-matched, producing a fantastic 3-3 draw after normal time.

Extra-time was therefore needed and it was De Havilland who remained calmest under the pressure to score the decisive point in the last seconds of the game.

Tournament organiser and De Havilland coach Rebecca Hannan said: “It was a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by all.

“This was De Havilland’s first ever win in a major netball competition so the hard work and determination shown by each and every one of our players has truly paid off.”
