Saracens Herts League Division Five

Datchworth 230-5 Bayford & Hertford 227-7

A FASCINATING game on Saturday saw Datchworth draw with Bayford & Hertford in a nail-biting climax.

A good start from John Wells (43) and Luke Bennett (21) saw Datchworth take control after being asked to open the batting.

However, Bayford began to take regular wickets as the visitors moved towards a total.

R Hogg was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-66 from 21 overs.

Steve Groves made 49 from as few as 53 deliveries before Nick Webb (34 not out) and Steve Stroomer (36 not out) both found that lost form.

Stroomer made his tally after facing just 25 balls.

In reply, it looked to be no contest, as the Bayford opening pair put on 129 for the first wicket.

Ketteridge (76) and J Hogg (65) demolished the Datchworth attack, with only Steve Nash (3-58) and Steve Groves (1-29) being hit for less than five an over.

Once the opening pair had fallen, wickets started coming and a thrilling finish was the outcome.

Bayford required six from the last ball with three wickets remaining - but the game ended in a draw.

Datchworth took another healthy helping of points with 17 from this match.

* Datchworth's 2nd XI lost out to their Bayford & Hertford counterparts on Saturday.

The second string were on the end of a nine-wicket defeat.
