DATCHWORTH Bowls Club travelled to Ware for a six rink mixed friendly and returned home after winning 142-116 on Saturday.

The lead changed six times in the game involving Jim Whittle, Peter Large, Peggy Lewis and skip Brian Gilbert and it was the fifth and sixth time that made the difference as they won 20-19.

The game with the two captains skipping against each other saw Edie Alden, Bill Thorne, John Alden and Datchworth captain Steve Arnold up against a rink skipped by Ware's John Daniels.

Datchworth managed to hold out to win by one shot, 23-22.

Jenny Thompson, Derrick Elms, Phil Fox and skip Basil Briars had it nearly all their own way as they won twice as many ends and twice as many points as their opposition as they triumphed 30-15.

Jane Waller, Eric Clutterbuck, David Thompson and skip Jim Adams did not get on the scoreboard until the 10th end, when they picked up two shots, to be 14-2 down.

They then managed to win five out of the last 11 ends as they went down 27-10.

Arthur Lewis, Georgina Gilbert, Chas Townley and skip Steve Chamberlain dropped seven shots on the first two ends and were still behind 9-6 after seven ends.

They then won eight ends on the bounce to lead 21-9 after 15 ends.

The Datchworth four pushed on to take a fine 35-12 victory.

In the game involving Dawn Kingsland, Bob Waller, Richard Andrews and skip David Wright, the visitors claimed the victory by 25 shots to 20.
