The talented 24-year-old made three finals and despite the scorching temperatures, she managed to walk away with all three titles, matching her performance at last year’s tournament.

Her singles success came courtesy of a 6-4 6-1 win over Clare Robinson, herself a former champion, in a superb display of tennis while the first of the doubles wins saw her again get the better of Robinson, this time alongside Steph Winfield.

That was in the ladies doubles where she partnered with Erin Howard, daughter of club coach Julia, to win 7-6 6-2

West’s final triumph was in the mixed doubles with brother James, the siblings taking that victory 6-4 7-6 against ladies Clare Smith and Adam Reid.

Like West, Reid was playing in his third final of the day. However, he didn’t have as much luck.

The mixed doubles loss followed a defeat for him and Jamie Simmonds, 6-3 6-3 against West and Aleem Cummins in the men’s doubles.

But he did walk away with one trophy, beating doubles partner Simmonds, Orchard’s chairman, 6-2 6-0 in two sets of top-quality tennis.

It was a title he last won in 2008.

In other matches, the mixed doubles plate was a family affair as Trevor Howard and daughter Erin took on Miriam Mohns and son Ed Sanders, the Howards claiming a 6-4 6-2 win in a friendly and entertaining match.

Steph and Simon Winfield defeated Sue West and Gavin Johnstone in the Over 50s veterans event in what turned out to be the match of the day.

The Winfields took the victory 6-4 5-7 12-10 after saving a match-point against them.

Club president Dave Wesson had the pleasure of rounding off the day’s proceedings with the presentation of the silverware, with trophies dating back to the 1930s.

He thanked everyone involved for a wonderful day’s tennis and another successful club championship.

Orchard Tennis Club is located in Blakemere Road, WGC, and new members of all ages and abilities are always welcomed.
