Dame Alice Owen’s U14 girls’ hockey side retain County Cup for first time

Dame Alice Owen’s U14 girls’ hockey squad became the first from the school to be retain the County Cup.

Having beaten Queenswood School in the semi-finals courtesy of goals from Neve Mayes and Alya Haque, they went on to face St Francis College.

There Haque was on target again as the team secured a 1-0 victory, with Paola Barreca voted as player of the day for the semi-final and final.

The squad was: Katie Crawford (captain), Lucy Georgiou (vice-captain), Paola Barreca, Gabbie Brissenden, Izzi Cattermole, Martha Cheek, Hannah Chen, Alya Haque, Emily Littlejohn, Neve Mayes, Stephanie Tanner, Alice Webster, Caterina White, Rachel Williams and Sophia Zeinden.

The first XI squad also reached the county finals.

The finals day was run as a round robin format due to one team being unable to attend.

Dame Alice Owen’s defeated Hitchin Girls School 2-0 with two goals from Lucy Bird in their first match and drew 0-0 with Queenswood School in the final game.

Due to the fact Queenswood School beat Hitchin Girls School 3-0 the girls finished second on goal difference despite being undefeated. Player of the day was Emma McIntyre.

The squad was: Emma McIntyre (captain), Molly Lodge (vice-captain), Lucy Bird, Isabelle Boffey, Stef Borden, Caitlin Creeley, Sophia Di Franco, Emily Jin, Corinna Leng, Eleanor Martin, Emma Page, Nandini Patel, Daisy Rabbitt and Eppie Sharp.
