KNEBWORTH made an impressive start to the cricket season with three of the club's four teams that opened their league campaigns on Saturday winning.

The Park's second team got their Saracens Herts League season off to a flying start with a comprehensive four-wicket win against newly-promoted Rickmansworth in Division Two.

Shaun Robinson won his first toss as captain of the seconds and put Rickmansworth in on a pitch that was only drying slowly after all the recent rain.

Sam McCrow turned in a fantastic effort with the new ball, bowling 15 overs without a break to take 3-26.

McCrow was well backed up by Michael Fisher, who claimed 2-24 off his seven overs, Graham Fisher, who snapped up 2-16 off nine, and Robinson himself with 2-8.

Rickmansworth's batsmen seemed intent on hitting their way out of trouble, but only succeeded in digging themselves further into it and they were all out for 102, a long way short of par.

The highlight of a fine, professional team effort in the field for Knebworth was a truly stunning, one-handed diving catch at long-off by McCrow.

Colin Letford got the Park's reply off to a steady start.

However, the key to the Park's opening day win was the fourth wicket partnership between Adam Sergeant (30) and Robinson (15).

They took the club up to 74-4 before Sergeant fell to a fine catch.

Robinson and Junior D'Abreu (15) lifted the score to 96, before both fell in quick succession.

That left McCrow to thump the winning runs with a superb cover drive on the up to take the Park to 105-6 and 30 Herts League points.

Knebworth's 2nds travel to Old Albanian this coming Saturday, while the 1st XI open their Saracens Herts Division One campaign at home to St Margaretsbury on the same day.
