HERTS Phoenix distance runner Laura Cowley came fourth in the senior women s race at the Watford Half Marathon. The Hatfield athlete ran extremely well at the event held in Cassiobury Park to finish in 1 hour 23 minutes 17 seconds. As well as being fourth

HERTS Phoenix distance runner Laura Cowley came fourth in the senior women's race at the Watford Half Marathon.

The Hatfield athlete ran extremely well at the event held in Cassiobury Park to finish in 1 hour 23 minutes 17 seconds.

As well as being fourth in her category, London Marathon hopeful Laura was 64th overall.

Also for Herts Phoenix, Peter Townsend made his debut at the 13-mile distance.

He claimed a very creditable time of 1 hr 24 mins 37 secs to earn 80th place.

Peter was followed home by Richard Whiting in 1 hr 59 mins 25 secs, which got him 1,480th position, and Charles Ledsam with 2 hrs 09 mins 36 secs in 1,722nd place.

Two other club athletes made the journey to Crewe to compete in the prestigious Alsager five-mile road race, reputed to be one of the fastest courses in the UK.

Lee Reynolds was 28th in 25 mins 58 secs, while Mike Tarpey crossed the line behind him in 59th with 27 mins 47 secs.
