Steve Young once played in goal at Wembley for Arlesey Town - in 1995
Codicote’s manager Steve Young donned the goalkeeper gloves in today’s game against Arlesey Town Reserves - and kept a clean sheet.
The 50-year-old was called into action as the club’s current number one Andrew McEwan suffered a broken finger just ahead of the game and it was too late for the club to bring in a replacement.
Young, who joined the club as joint manager in the summer along with Keith Coughlin, played the full 90 minutes and made a couple of saves including tipping a shot over the bar with his side 1-0 ahead.
Codicote went on to win the Spartan South Midlands Division One match 2-0, their first victory of the season.
Young, a former manager and goalkeeper at Stotfold, also played in goal at Wembley in 1995 for Arlesey Town in their FA Vase victory over Oxford City.
