Leeds Carnegie v Galleria Mavericks - Preview

HEAD coach Kendra Slawinski believes her Mavericks side take on one of the emerging Superleague teams on Monday night.

The Hatfield based-outfit travel to Yorkshire to take on Leeds Carnegie next week.

Leeds are in fifth spot in the Superleague and need to come in the top four to make the end-of- season play-offs.

Slawinski said: "Leeds are really pushing for the top four."

Of the Superleague, she added: "There's the top one, which is Bath, then everyone else that are called the challengers who are ourselves, Loughborough and Brunel."

"On paper Bath are clear favourites, but there are others that are more than capable of upsetting them."

Fourth-placed Brunel were beaten away at Leeds last month, so Mavericks will know they are in for a tough encounter on Monday.

Slawinski is expecting their opponents to fly out of the blocks.

She said: "I think they will really go at us.

"They need the two points so will come at us strongly, with confidence and belief.

"We'll need to stick to our game plan and be consistent throughout."

Looking at the term as a whole, Slawinski is pleased with her Mavericks side.

"Things are going according to plan, we are in a strong position," she said.

"We need to be in the top four to make the play-offs. We are in third which would mean we would have a home fixture."

The Leeds game, which begins at 7.30pm on Monday, is being filmed for Sky Sports. It begins a busy few weeks for the Mavericks.

Following the Leeds match next Monday night, they are in action again on Friday, February 27.

They host bottom club Glasgow Wildcats at the Herts Sports Village, with an 8pm start.
