WELWYN Wheelers have been awarded the prestigious Clubmark accolade.

Clubmark is a cross sport accreditation awarded by Sport England to sports clubs with prosperous junior sections.

Chosen winners show young people are properly cared for when participating in club activities but also that talent is developed appropriately.

The award was handed out to the cycling club at the Gosling Sports Park before the start of last Friday night's weekly track league meeting.

Nigel Hampton, the regional coaching and club development manager for British Cycling, presented the honour to Welwyn Wheelers.

Cycling club chairman Peter Waghorn said: "This award is an acknowledgement of all the hard work that the club coaches and coaches from outside the club who regularly help us out have put into developing young cycling talent in the region.

"Not only has the club produced some exceptional young riders in recent years, the youth coaching programme based here at Gosling Sports Park has also enabled ever greater numbers of young people to participate in cycle sport in a supportive and safe environment.
