A LADY golfer from Brocket Hall reached the second round of the English Women's Close Amateur Championship at Ganton before narrowly going out to a former winner.

Charlie Douglass got through the qualifying stages in Yorkshire to reach the last 32 of the tournament.

She faced Charlotte Wild, from the Mere club in Cheshire, in the first round and won through 2&1.

However, England girl international Douglass came unstuck in the next round against Yorkshire's Emma Brown.

The Malton and Norton golfer, who has twice claimed the title, won a tight match on the 18th, having already gone the distance against another former champ in the shape of Waterlooville's Kerry Smith.
