WGC'S Sunday 2nd XI lost away to a strong Harpenden side by 18 runs at the weekend.

The home team had posted 206-9 from their 40 overs, with WGC bowler Pat Lynch taking 2-15 and Alex Chalker finishing with figures of 2-14.

At 108 for no wicket, WGC appeared well on course for a victory.

However, seven wickets were then lost for only 80 more runs.

Leslie Meyer (59) and Steve Russell (50) completed their century opening partnership, but a lack of a solid middle order batting performance saw the innings and the victory slip away.

Next up is a tricky away tie to Preston on Sunday, where the side will be hoping for a more improved all-round performance.
