HANNAH Burke leads the way for England after the first qualifying round of the Ladies' British Amateur Championship at North Berwick.

The 20-year-old from Mid Herts shares fifth place with a one over par 73, which she compiled with three birdies and four bogeys.

The first round lead is held by Caroline Hedwall of Sweden, who shot 68 and is four shots clear of the field.

Hannah is a student at Baylor University in Texas and has won on the US women's college circuit.

Before starting university, Herts county player Hannah was an England girl international and a member of the English Women's Golf Association Futures U18 Squad.

One shot behind her, on 74, are England international Rachel Jennings and Essex champion Jenny Pease.
