HERTS Phoenix thrower Ian Miller picked up a bumper five gold medals at the British 56lbs Championships in his age group.

Taking part in the over 60s group, the 74-year-old left his 10 competitors trailing in his wake.

The Herts Phoenix veteran won all of the events to collect five gold medals.

A 9.07m effort in the hammer was enough to win that one, as was a 9.17m throw in the highland turn.

An Irish sling attempt of 6.54m was the furthest of the day in his age group, as was Ian's 5.22m in the shot putt.

The Welwyn athlete nailed a fifth first place with his 4m weight for height throw.

Ian will not be competing in as many events as usual this season.

He is in extra heavy training for the Scottish Highland Games in July.
