Two brothers from Brookmans Park helped GB to fourth place at the IISHF U19 Inline Hockey European Championships in Stegersbach, Austria.

Max Spurge, a sixth former at Chancellors, and younger brother Jacob, in Year 10 at Dame Alice Owen’s, were part of the GB squad.

The Brookmans Park pair, who train three times a week at Hatfield Leisure Centre with Borehamwood Crusaders, have been playing the sport for five years.

In Austria, the team’s highlights were a 10-0 victory over the hosts, followed by a 8-6 semi-final loss against Switzerland.

Jacob, the youngest member of the GB squad, scored the only goal in his team’s defeat by tournament winners Germany, with the assist by Max.

Jacob followed this with another in the win over Austria.

It was a great experience for everybody involved and with Max having two more years in this age group, and Jacob another year after that, they will hopefully be part of a team that can improve on their fourth place in the next few championships.
