WGC boxers were in action at an event held in Royston as the club continues to develop their talents.

In the first bout, 26-year-old Dan Grimes faced a strong opponent in D Coulahan, fighting out of the Lewsey Boxing Club, losing on a unanimous points decision.

Next up was 13-year-old WGC resident Matt Young, who despite a good performance, lost on a majority decision to Clapton fighter R Hartman.

The result was somewhat of a surprise as Young seemed to dictate the fight, and should take heart from what was a superb showing from a talented boxer.

Finally, 13-year-old talent Frankie Hobden took to the ring to take on Goldstar Gym fighter Luke Field.

The Nicholas Breakspear School pupil boxed brilliantly and won the bout on a unanimous points decision.

Martin Calvert, trainer at the WGC Amateur Boxing Club, said: "Again it was a brilliant fight from Frankie, he just seems to be getting better and better.

"But credit must go to all the lads, who tried their best, and it's always a learning process.
