WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders will now face off against American Willie Monroe Jr in his second title defence.
The Hatfield champ was due to fight Avtandil Khurtsidze two weeks ago but that match was cancelled following the Georgian’s arrest in the US.
It was the latest in a catalogue of frustrations for Saunders who has only fought once since defeating Andy Lee for the crown.
But he will be raring to go against Monroe, who has a record of 21-2 and suffered his only stoppage defeat to Gennady Golovkin in 2015.
Saunders said: “Willie is a good fighter and a good boxer.
“This is his big chance and he isn’t coming over here just to make up the numbers.
“He has been in with some of the best fighters in the World including Golovkin where he came up short.”
Monroe said: “Saunders is a good fighter and a worthy champion but I’m coming for that belt.”
