UNBEATEN boxer Billy Joe Saunders made a triumphant return to the ring last night (Saturday) in Liverpool.
The Hatfield hitter beat Tony Randell inside two rounds at the Liverpool Echo Arena as part of Frank Warren’s pre-Christmas feast of fight action.
Former Beijing Olympian Saunders had not fought since damaging his hand in a points win against Andy Butlin at Upton Park, the home of West Ham United Football Club, earlier in the year.
However, the Herts hardman returned in style on Merseyside as he extended his unbeaten professional record to seven straight wins with a convincing second round victory over Randell in their scheduled six-round middleweight contest.
Elsewhere on the Liverpool bill, Saunders’ stablemate James DeGale, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist, beat British super-middleweight champion Paul Smith, while Nathan Cleverly and Kell Brook also claimed wins.
Welshman Cleverly lifted the interim WBO light-heavyweight title with a points win over awkward late replacement Nadjib Mohammedi.
