Billy Joe Saunders’ training blog ahead of World title shot against Andy Lee

Here is Hatfield boxer Billy Joe Saunders exclusive training camp blog ahead of his WBO world middleweight title fight against champion Andy Lee in Manchester on Saturday, December 19.
“I’ve been out in Marbella, Spain for nearly three weeks now and the training is going fantastically, it couldn’t be better.
“It’s a brutal regime here with 6am starts beginning with runs on the beach and in the mountains, sparring, gym-work, and strength and conditioning sessions, but this is what it takes to become world champion.
“Everyday is the same: train, eat, drink, sleep, repeat, repeat, repeat. It can be very boring, but this is what the life of a fighter is like, the prize at the end is to become world champion and lift that belt which is what drives you on.
“With the fight against Lee just under four weeks away I’m getting my body in the best physical shape possible and pushing it to the limits.
“Sparring, which is absolutely crucial for a fighter, started a week ago and I’ve got a few good fighters here, without giving away any names or secrets, who are tall rangy fighters, very similar to Lee.
“My thoughts at the moment are focused on getting my body battle ready and focusing on my training.
“Lee is on my mind, but I won’t start thinking about him properly until the final week and then I start breaking him down in my mind and visualising the victory.
“Until then it’s constantly drilling home the game plan that my trainer Jimmy Tibbs has worked out for me.
“Right now I’m missing my family more than anything. I love my two boys and not being able to see them is really killing me inside, again this is making me more hungry and fuels the desire to win and make Andy Lee pay for what I’m going through.”
