Billy Joe Saunders to fight for British title

HATFIELD boxer Billy Joe Saunders has got what he wanted as he is set to fight for the British Middleweight title at London's ExCel Arena in December.
Saunders will meet Trowbridge fighter Nick Blackwell for the now-vacant British belt, as well as defending his Commonwealth title.
Purse bids were out for Billy Joe to meet Martin Murray for the British title, but the St Helens man has since vacated as he looks to make a name for himself on the world stage.
Twenty-one-year-old Blackwell has lost one of his 13 fights since turning professional, against the aforementioned Murray, when he was retired by his corner at the end of the fifth round back in June 2011.
He has bounced back from that disappointment in some style though, with three knockout victories and a retirement, and the fight could well pose Billy Joe his toughest test yet.
However, following Saunders’ brutal second-round KO of previously unbeaten Australian big-hitter Jarrod Fletcher last month, the odds will more than likely be in his favour.
Ricky Burns, George Groves and Tony Conquest will also defend their titles on the big end of year event in the capital on December 15, live and exclusive on BoxNation, (Sky Ch. 437, Virgin Ch. 546), with even more title fights to be added.
Tickets, priced at £40, £50, £75, £100, £150 and £200, are available from Eventim at www.eventim.co.uk or 0844 249 1000.
