Hatfield’s Billy Joe Saunders is looking forward to attempting to wrench the WBO World Middleweight title away from champion Andy Lee on home soil in Manchester on Saturday, October 10.

The original showdown, due to take place on September 19, was postponed last Wednesday as Irishman Lee’s preparations for the fight have been restricted by a virus.

Now one of three world title fights on a packed card at the Manchester Evening News Arena, Saunders wants to make the most of home advantage.

Speaking at a press conference in Manchester on Monday, Saunders said: “I am flying the flag for England, especially it is on what I class as home soil.

“I have boxed in Manchester twice and it is a dream come true to fight for the world title in England.

“There is a tough job ahead as it is the fight of my life. I don’t expect any favours in the ring on the night.

“When it gets to the nitty-gritty and you have your fans behind you they can give you that little bit more of a push and bring that extra out of you, so it could be a factor.”
