WGC boxer Ashley Dennis has failed to make the Senior Amateur Boxing Association of England finals.

The WGC club fighter lost to Teeside boxer Tony Richardson on Friday in the quarter-finals held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The fight proved to be a bout too far for the experienced Dennis, with the score ending 15-5 to Richardson.

With his opponent enjoying a massive height and reach advantage, the WGC boxer found it impossible to counter Richardson's awkward and gangly style.

Ashley is a three-times Home Counties champion, but found it tough going against the durable Richardson.

Former national novice champion Richardson, 26, reached last season's ABA semi-finals, so it was always going to be a tough fight for the WGC member.

But Dennis has been boxing long enough to know there are always chances to bounce back, having been in the game for 15 years.

And he will take heart from getting to the quarter-finals of what was a strong and experienced line-up of opponents.
