WELWYN Garden City Bowls Club officially opened its new clubhouse on Monday.

Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council Helen Bromley officially opened the new development as part of the council’s ‘10 days of sport & culture’.

Funding for the project came from a number of channels – the Big Lottery Fund, Lafarge Aggregates’ Landfill Communities Fund, Bowls England and fundraising by club members.

Mike Pendock, of Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to help the WGC Bowls Club achieve their ambition of creating new modern facilities.

“The new clubroom will benefit not only current players, but I’m sure will help attract new members and provide a great social focus for the wider community.”

The club was founded in 1942 and shares its ground and facilities with WGC Cricket Club.
