A BELOW strength Hatfield 3rd XI defied their weakened availability by bowling out visitors Letchworth 5ths for just 73 runs at King George V Playing Fields in their Division 12 match.

The hosts won the Saracens Herts League clash on Saturday thanks to a fine display from young opening bowlers Sean Edge and Joe Bigley.

Edge took 3-13 and Bigley claimed 2-8.

Alan Dudman and Rory Golder also picked up a wicket each.

That enabled evergreen Tony Foster to take 3-17 to finish off the visitors for a poor score.

Hatfield appeared to be moving calmly to victory as skipper Bruce Percival (37) and Clive Wilson took the total to 47.

The first wicket fell when Wilson was caught for 11.

Matt Jennings hit 12 runs to help take the score to 68.

Percival was caught immediately afterwards and in almost a blink of an eye three more wickets fell to see the scores level at 73-6.

Veteran Tony Foster then called upon all his years of experience to calmly hit the ball for four and win the match for Hatfield by four wickets.
