Welwyn’s Sophie Mabbs (10), the 2013 British Youth E Girls Biathle Champion, represented GB at the World Championships held in Limassol, Cyprus earlier this month.

In an event comprising over 330 athletes from 25 diverse nations it offered not only a great competitive atmosphere but also, as a result of the glorious sunshine and calm sea waters, good race conditions too.

Biathle, is a multi sport activity comprising two of the disciplines (running and swimming) of Modern Pentathlon. It requires not only speed but endurance too.

Following a season of being unbeaten in the UK and at the European Championships, Sophie’s determination drove her to cross the finish line in Cyprus in first position securing individual and team gold medals and the title of 2013 Youth E Girls Biathle World Champion.
