Luton Town & Indians 4ths 158-6 Bentley Heath 2nds 154-9

BENTLEY Heath 2nds finished five runs short of victory as they drew with Luton Town & Indians 4ths on Saturday.

Promotion-chasing Town made 158-6 and Heath just could not find the runs needed for the win in reply as they ended on 154-9.

Skipper Gary Collis was keen to field first in cloudy overcast conditions.

His wish was granted when Luton skipper Alan Morgan won the toss and chose to bat.

Simon Veysi opened the bowling and took a wicket off his first delivery thanks to a good catch from Jeff Barnes.

Sannan Mohammed opened from the other end and both bowlers were in fine form with only 10 runs coming from Luton's first 10 overs.

Rain stopped play after 20 overs with Luton on 45-1.

After a short delay, which resulted in both teams losing two overs, the game resumed.

The Bedfordshire side went on to post a target of 158-6.

For Heath, Jason Nandlal finished as the top wicket-taker.

He claimed 3-19, while Nick Sannan took 2-52 and Simon Veysi captured the other one.

Terry Jones and Sannan Mohammed opened the Bentley Heath batting.

Although it was a slow start, both batsmen played some nice shots. However, Jones fell for 15.

Skipper Collis joined Mohammed and kept the score moving.

Gary Collis was next to fall and he was soon joined by Craig Collis back in the pavilion.

Dave Tagg ventured to the crease with Mohammed, who continued to play some magnificent cricket.

He was unlucky not to reach his half-century as he was bowled on 49.

Nick Dunnett joined Tagg in the middle and pushed the score to 133 before Tagg was the fifth man out.

With 26 needed for the win, Paul Whiskin joined Dunnett but was bowled.

In came Daniel Westmore, who joined Paul back in the pavilion after looking to play positive with the score on 138-7 off 38 overs.

Nandlal came in at number nine and played a nice shot to the boundary as he and Dunnett reached 152 with one over left.

Unfortunately, Dunnett's good innings came to end in the last over when he was bowled for 23.

Veysi came in with three balls remaining and seven required.

He scored two off the first ball, but was unable to get the remaining five runs. Veysi was caught in the covers last ball as Heath completed their innings on 154-9.
