HATFIELD Swimming Club’s Adam Brown narrowly missed out on a place in the 50m Freestyle semi-finals at the World Championships in Barcelona.

The 24-year-old London 2012 Olympian clocked 22.30secs in heat 10 on Friday morning to finish 17th quickest with the fastest 16 swimmers making the semi-finals. He will now be a first reserve for the semi-finals.

It was a frustration for Brown who set a new British 50m Freestyle record of 21.92secs in June, a repeat of that time would have seen him comfortably make the semis in seventh spot.

At the World Championships on Wednesday Brown set a personal best of 48.48secs as he was pipped to a final place in the men’s 100m Freestyle.
