Australian Open exit for Burden

PUBLISHED: 16:27 11 July 2013 | UPDATED: 16:27 11 July 2013

ALFIE Burden was knocked out of snooker’s Australian Open at the second round stage by fellow Englishman Mark Davis.

Burden, who lives in Welwyn Garden City, had progressed from the first round by defeating Michael Holt 5-2 to reach the second round.

Davies won the first two frames earlier today (Thursday) before Burden pulled one back.

Davies pushed on taking the next two frames to march into a 4-1 lead and needing just one more to secure victory in the best of nine clash.

Burden showed spirit fighting back by winning the next two himself making it 4-3.

However, that was as far as the comeback went as Davis mopped up the next one to claim a 5-3 win.
