Former England goalkeeper David James has congratulated Arsenal stopper Petr Cech on beating his Premier League cleansheets record.

After playing for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester City and Portsmouth James’ record stood at 169, however with the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Bank Holiday Monday, Cech, who kept 162 shutouts while playing for Chelsea, overtook him moving the benchmark to 170.

Following the game, James, from Welwyn Garden City, Tweeted: “Congratulations @PetrCech Premier League clean sheet record holder. Plenty more to come! What a guy!”
