Oli Stockwell’s stock continues to rise in the world of cycling after setting an incredible record.

The 15-year-old Welwyn Wheeler was riding in the VC Norwich 25-mile time trial on Saturday and he finished in a 48 minutes 46 seconds, a new national juvenile record at an average speed of 30.76 mph.

That was 90 seconds quicker than the previous best time and was only beaten by one other rider on the day, Matthew Senter of Team Velovelocity, a senior rider.

Stockwell’s fine form has also propelled him to the U16 national final of the British Youth Omnium Series after the final round in Stratford.

He will be joined in Derby in August by Wheelers’ team-mates Euan Woodliffe, Caelen Miller and Beth Bennett who came through in the U14 section.

Some of the standout rides on the day included Joe Kiely’s second in the U16 scratch race and Tom Sharples coming fourth in the time-trial.
