JODIE Williams admitted just being at the IAAF World Championships has been an amazing experience.

The Welwyn Garden City sprint star bowed out of the women’s 200m at the semi-final stage having clocked 23.21secs in Moscow.

The 19-year-old former Queenswood student, told the BBC: “This has been an amazing experience. I came here wanting to compete. I feel I let myself down a bit in that race but I gave everything I had.

“It was so hard to race again this evening after this morning.”

The championships gave Williams the chance to face the best athletes in the world and take on the sportswomen she has looked up to growing up.

“These girls are some of my idols so to be on the same track as them, I can’t be too disappointed,” she added.

“To even be here is an achievement in itself. I now feel I’m coming back into some form and hopefully next year will be a good year for me.”

Williams is likely to race again in Russia as part of the women’s 4x100m relay team.
