Aljaz Bedene will face clay-court king Rafael Nadal in the Monte Carlo Masters second round after the Welwyn Garden City player saw off Lukas Rosol in straight sets today (Monday).

Bedene, fully fit again after retiring from his Miami Open second round clash with Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 16 days ago, dispatched his Czech opponent with minimum fuss, winning the first set 6-3.

The Brit then ran away with the second set, winning it 6-2, to secure a first-ever meeting with fifth seed Nadal, an eight-time singles winner on the clay at the Monte Carlo event.

The pair will square off on Wednesday.
