Aljaz Bedene will face Dominica’s Victor Estrella Burgos in the opening round of the 2017 Australian Open which begins on Monday.

The Welwyn Garden City player, who now sits at 108 in the ATP world rankings after an injury-hit 2016, is looking for his first grand slam success since the French Open last May having lost in the opening round of both Wimbledon and the US Open.

Victory for either man would break their respective ducks at the opening grand slam of the year with neither man having ever reached round two in Australia in a combined six attempts (Bedene four, Burgos two).

Veteran Dominican Burgos is currently ranked five places above the British number four at 103.

The Melbourne meeting will be the pair’s first-ever on the ATP tour.

The winner will meet the victor of home fabourite Bernard Tomic and Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci in the second round.
