Aljaz Bedene’s Austrian adventure was short-lived as he was beaten by home wildcard Dennis Novak in the first round of the ATP Generali Open in Kitzbuhel.

Welwyn Garden City’s Bedene started the match well, winning a first set tie-break.

However, the new world number 57, soon fell foul of the altitude, handing the advantage to the Austrian.

Levelling the match at one set apiece after winning the second 6-4, Novak wrapped up the decider 6-1 to win his first-ever match on the main ATP tour.
