Alfred Dunhill Links Championship third place secures Tom Lewis his European Tour card

WEWLYN Garden City golfer Tom Lewis secured his place on the European Tour next year with a tied-third placed finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships on Sunday.

The former Monk’s Walk School pupil was in danger of losing his spot on the Tour, he started the week 155th in the standings with the top 110 keeping their card for next season.

However, the 22-year-old shot 22-under-par in the tournament in which the first three rounds are played at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns before the final 18 holes are played out back at St Andrews.

Superb rounds of 64, 65, 73 and 64 secured Lewis prize money of €199,153.98 and lifted him to 90th in the rankings.

David Howell took the title after winning a play-off with Peter Uihlein, they both had finished on 23-under-par.
