HERTS tennis ace and former UK ranked player Neil Bamford is set to retire from the circuit.

The North Mymms Cricket Club member was recently part of the Herts team that retained the Winter County Cup tennis event held in Bath.

Herts LTA secretary Sybil Howgego said: "Neil will still be playing for the county side and is a very important member of our squad.

"He will also have more time for cricket, which he is also very good at."

The 27-year-old is going to work with Alan Jones and Jo Durie at the new Chiswick tennis centre.

He will continue to play tennis socially.

Bamford will also be on hand to assist the performance of players as he has a wealth of knowledge of the trials and tribulations of being on the pro circuit.

During his career the right-hander reached a singles world ranking of 555 in January 2006.

Later that year, in November, he achieved a career-high doubles world ranking of number 271.
